Literature Text

You came along,
Out of the blue,
With friendship as intention,
But after only days,
Temptation overtook us,
Forced us to see each other,
As more than just mates;
It forced us to want each other.

It compromised us.

You came along,
Followed me 'round,
Keen to see more,
Keen to talk more,
Then we got closer,
Our many similarities drew us,
Regretfully,
Towards something we couldn't have.

Each other.

You came along,
And we shivered in the moonlight,
As the fire crackled,
And the wind swept calmly,
We grew closer,
To the forbidden,
To each other,
To temptation.

To our compromise.

You came along,
With your life story,
And we shared with each other,
Our own stories of love,
And though we were both loved,
And we both loved another,
We still grew closer,
Without pausing to think,

Until the last second.

You came along,
In your brilliance,
And entranced me,
To a point where temptation called,
And the only thing that stopped me,
Was the memory of my love,
And the thought that I could destroy it,
And now all I have to say,

Is I'm sorry.
After I almost compromised myself, and the only thing that stopped me, was the love I have for my partner, and the love he has for me.

Hauntingly passionate. Each stanza alone reveals such energy; holistically it is heartbreaking triumphant.
